|
|
| I have read through alot of the horrors people are going through and have learned quite a bit. Most of my problems have been solved and/or worked around. The only issue I can see - and it's a pain since I have to do a demo for a prospective - is I see my share but I also see a "fake" postfix share. Brand new install of tiger plus combo update to 10.4.3. I see my server share to my External Firewire HD (a Lacie people, so yes it works - check the FAQ's if it's not working) great. In fact I have copied data do it. But what is up with the postfix share. I have a hard time showing this off with that there. I saw another post with a user having the same problem. I think I can "glide" over it during the demo, but really need this share to go away when/if implemented. Any thoughts? |

| Hmm, are you by chance connecting a user with a user name "postfix"? If so, then that is just the home directory. If not, does a user named postfix exist on your machine? What happens if you try to connect to the postfix share? |

nothing named postfix. In fact a search for postfix only finds its name inside other text files not relevant to anything. Another person reported this behavior as well in a different post, so I know I'm not alone. Only 2 users created. One admin for OSX another through sharepoints and that's it. BTW, the share through sharepoints works great! Just don't understand the other share. It can be mounted, but you don't have permissions to view its contents. Hope this helps...

Is there a folder called postfix anywhere?
If you go to the Users & "Public" shares tab and then click on the show system users & groups does that show the postfix user? |

| Yes, the postfix user is included as a system group and user. But obviously it's not shared, but we're on the right track on why it is. |

| another thing I did was to rename the public folder of my osx "server" admin user to public1 so it would not publish. I wouldn't think that could cause it, eh? |

| There should be at least two folders named "postfix" in your system. 1. in the /etc folder containing the postfix configuration, 2. in /var/spool. The second folder contains lots of postfix required working folders including a folder named "public". According to the NetInfo infos for this user /var/spool/postfix is also the home directory for the user postfix. Maybe this is the shared folder you donīt have access rights to. Try to set the permissions of that folder so you have at least read access to this folder, create a new folder in it and then log in to the machine. I would think you now can see the new folder over the network. |

| Thanks for the input, but I don't want the share to show up. It shouldn't be showing up as a share. Trying to make it go away, not utilize it. Thanks for the info though on where these files are... |

| Ok, let's take another step. Open up NetInfo Manager and then go to /config/SharePoints/ in there. What do you see? |

Must have been the mac. The client purchased a newer mac and I installed sharepoints and do not have the postfix user. But I never figured out why it showed up. Don't be surprised if more users see this behavior. BTW, customer is impressed. Donation forthcoming.

I just figured out how to solve the mysterious "postfix" shared folder problem.
Using the freeware application "SharePoints", I went to the "AFS Properties" screen, and unselected "Admin is Normal User". I then hit the "Update AppleFileServer Properties" button.
Finally, I went to the Sharing preferences, and stopped and restarted File Sharing.
Voila! Problem solved.
What I don't know are the ramifications of changing that setting.

Hi, i can confirm that the previous posters (petro) solution does resolve the issue... But... i want that checkbox checked... i want admins only to see the users folders, and any created shares. Not every mounted harddrive... This makes the postfix mount point return...
by the way is is almost certainly /var/spool/postfix. On my newly installed minimac with all upgrades that directory has a creation/mod date of 14 jan 2006. This is also the dat given when you get do command-i on the shared postfix folder on a connecting client machine...
Please note that no strange configuration has been done with this machine. It has this behavior out of the box...
Also... It only appears for users with administrator rights. when i turn these rights off the postfix directory will not show...

| At this point, I think we will have to start pinging Apple as it seems the AppleFileServer is doing something funny. |
